In addition to our two manufacturing facilities, Universal Electronics has a staff of design engineering professionals located at the Helenville office. The UEI Engineering Department’s mission is to help our customers transform new product concepts and partially completed projects into production. Our engineers have years of experience in electronic hardware design, software development, packaging, and circuit board layout.
We specialize in developing products using embedded microprocessors. A sampling of recent design projects include:
- Automated cement making system
- Metal particle detector for food processing industry
- Restaurant oven controller
- Traffic radar drones
- Electric lawn mower motor controller
- X-ray sample positioning device photographic silver recovery system
- Fire detection and control system for mass transit busses
- Remote camera controller for pipe inspection
- Hand held voice recorder and playback device
Another UEI specialty is updating old designs. An older product may still sell well but is no longer economical to produce. Your company may not want to pull your engineers off developing future products to update an old product. UEI can evaluate the old design and replace hard to find and/or expensive parts with modern ones. We are experts at converting from old hand assembled through hole designs to modern surface mount designs that can be efficiently produced on high speed automated lines.
Because we often develop test fixtures for the products we manufacture (regardless of where the initial design was done) we have considerable experience in this area. We often develop test fixtures for other companies for use on their own production lines. These range from small standalone Go/No Go test fixtures to complex PC based systems as well as test fixtures and software for our in house Hewlett-Packard in-circuit ATE systems.
